The TNS, an exception in the regions

A unique place in the French theatrical landscape, the National Theatre of Strasbourg is the only national theater located in the region. It is one of the five French national theaters, along with the Comédie Française, the Odéon Théâtre de l'Europe, the Théâtre national de la Colline and the Théâtre national de Chaillot.

A creative tool open to all

The Théâtre National de Strasbourg is home to a drama school, performance and rehearsal rooms, and set and costume construction workshops. Stanislas Nordey, director since September 2014 wants to put at the heart of the project a critical and accesible art theater, with its missions of creation and training; he wants to lead artistic excellence and the expansion of audiences at the same time. The public is not invited as a consumer of theater but as a passenger embarked on the adventure.

Repertoire, contemporary creation and training

The TNS presents more than 15 shows per season, including several creations and co-productions. In parallel, a program of eclectic events, open to all, free of charge and independent from the performances, is offered under the name of "The other season". The fifty or so students of the TNS school, who are particularly aware of the contemporary repertoire, are involved in many of the theater's activities and work in all the spaces.

A permanent team of about one hundred people and a director appointed by the President of the Republic on the proposal of the Ministry of Culture

To carry out its missions of theatrical creation and dissemination, teaching and audience development, the TNS relies on a permanent staff of about 100 technical and administrative employees, placed under the authority of the director, Stanislas Nordey since September 2014.
