Centro Dramático Galego (CDG) is the Galician public theater company that is located in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula. As a theatrical unit dependent on the Galician government, it has continuously developed its activity of promotion and creation in the performing arts field since its foundation in 1984.
Headquartered at Salón Teatro, in the city of Santiago de Compostela, Centro Dramático Galego has already surpassed four decades of operation in which it has produced more than a hundred shows using the Galician language as its main hallmark and with a programmatic guideline based on two main axes:
-The staging of the great classical, Galician and international theatrical repertoires, brought to the present day. -The representation of current Galician playwriting.
Since his election as director of Centro Dramático Galego in January 2020, Fran Núñez promotes an incessant activity of exhibition of all the scenic genres from Salón Teatro.
The action of the Centro Dramático Galego has intensified greatly in recent years to strengthen its relationship with the performing arts sector, within the local territory and internationally. In this sense, the support to the authorship of theatrical texts in Galician, the expansion of the dynamics of co-productions with private companies, the substantial progress in policies of equality, accessibility, inclusion and diversity, and the scope of its initiatives outside Galicia are characteristics that define it nowadays.
Thus, the external action of the CDG is materialized in the active participation of several European projects and other initiatives that reached to many countries in recent years, especially in Europe and America, taking as references the Galician language, culture and attention to the Galician diaspora. As for its internal incursion, the dynamics of distribution of touring shows and the implementation of a specific mobility plan make it possible for its activity to reach and be enjoyed by the public in most of the 313 Galician municipalities.
Furthermore, Centro Dramático Galego promotes the cooperation of the main artists of our territory in its own productions and encourages the addition of students graduated from the Escuela Superior de Arte Dramática de Galicia with programs such as CDGLab.
