French stage director and former director of the Odeon Theatre of Europe in Paris, Georges Lavaudant was in residence at the Teatro Garibaldi di Palermo alla Kalsa, Italy, from 27 February to 30 March 2013.
That same year, between 27 February and 4 March, he directed a one-week workshop for 20 actors under 35 years of age, after which he selected some of them to participate in the creation of a performance.
Les Morts [The Deads], based on Georges Bataille, Octave Mirbeau and Arthur Rimbaud, was presented on 28 March 2013 at the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa (Tre Navate).
The event was supported by the Union of European Theatres in the context of its "Decentralized Academy", the city of Palermo, the "Chantiers Culturelles a la Zisa", and the French cultural Institutes in Paris and Palermo.
Union des Théâtres de l'Europe gathered, in the last 3 decades, some of the most important European theatres and artists. Through festivals, exhibitions, exchanges, masterclasses, cooperation projects, the UTE help create a continuous flow between West and East, between generations, between tradition and innovation. Our celebration is inspired by this rich history. With the help of the Interferences International Theatre Festival, we wish to remember some of the best performances presented at past editions of the UTE festival and look forward to new horizons.
