Friedrich Dürrenmatt‘s dark comedy about unfortunate and overwhelming passion and love, decaying moral values, freedom of choice are more acute than ever. Claire Zachanassian, a millionaire, returns to her withering hometown and offers to provide the townspeople with much-needed funds in return for a murder. She is craving revenge for her once broken heart and honour and thus wants her former lover - Alfred, killed. Can money buy the moral integrity and dignity of an entire city? The issues raised by the Swiss dramatist are particularly relevant in our modern times. Ilan Ronen’s picturesque and stylish production, intensified by Lily Ben Nachshon’s scenography and Anat Sternschuss’s costume design, will be staged on the Maly Theatre’s renovated historic stage.
