Jan Hein

Raised in the Ruhr Region of Germany, Jan Hein studied German, Philosophy and Art History in Cologne. He worked as dramaturge at Deutschen Schauspielhaus in Hamburg (2002-2005, artistic director Tom Stromberg), Schauspiel Frankfurt (2006-2007, artistic director Elisabeth Schweeger), Schauspiel Köln (2007-2013, artistic director Karin Beier). From 2013 to 2018 he was the Head dramaturge at Schauspiel Stuttgart (artistic director Armin Petras). He worked together with directors such as Dimiter Gotscheff, Jürgen Gosch, Laurent Chétouane, Sebastian Hartmann, Jürgen Kruse, Karin Beier, Jan Bosse, Katie Mitchell, Viktor Bodo, Schorsch Kamerun, Robert Borgmann, Armin Petras, Stephan Kimmig, Jossi Wieler, Frank Castorf, Kay Voges and Claus Peymann. Since 1996 we worked regularly with Thosten Lensing, and from 2000 to 2012 they worked together as co-directors. His productions from Hamburg, Cologne and Frankfurt were invited repeteadly to Berliner Theatertreffen, Mülheimer Theatertagen, the Autorentheatertagen, the Ruhrfestspielen Recklinghausen, the Wiener Festwochen and the Festival d'Avignon. Mr. Hein taught at the Hamburger Theaterakademie and at the Akademie für Darstellende Kunst Baden-Württemberg. From 2013 to 2018 he was also a member of the UTE Board of Directors.


SInce 2018 Jan Hein is the new Head dramaturge of Ruhrfestspiele Recklinghausen.
