Cultures of a Postmigrant Society, Include!

Talking and acting back from the margins

This congress focused on the currently marginalized part of artistic and cultural practice: it dealt with artistic productions in the post-migrant society from a trans-disciplinary perspective; it aimed at connecting different players from the cultural field. The overall goal was to generate and reflect on knowledge through workshops, and artistic and academic input.

The Union des Théâtres de l'Europe and the Volkstheater Wien contributed to this conference with one panel.

The congress was organized by: Birgit Peter (Institute for Theatre, Film and Media Studies at the University of Vienna); Aslı Kışlal and Anna Schober (daskunst and diverCITYLAB), Anne Wiederhold and Ivana Pilic (Kunst-Sozial-Raum Brunnenpassage), Petja Dimitrova (Academy of Fine Arts), Walter Rohn (Institute for Urban- and Regional Research), Volkstheater and the Union des Théâtres de l’Europe.

PANEL Zufluchtsstadttheater/Sanctuary City Theatre

Keynote and Discussion

The Panel in the framework of the Conference Cultures of a Postmigrant Society, Include! Talking and acting back from the margins gathered theatre makers who are in exile themselves or who work with refugee artists, who enter new cooperations or develop new models and structures at state and municipal theatres.

Starting from singular artistic experinces, the final discussion was about the role of artists, institutions and civil society within the process to take into account the reality of the city as a sanctuary city.

With Ayham Majid Agha (actor, director, writer, Exil Ensemble of the Maxim Gorki Theater, Berlin), Rafat Al Zakout (director, Collective Ma'louba), Jessica Glause (Director, Bavarian State Opera, Munich, and Open Border Ensemble of the Kammerspiele Munich), Krystel Khoury (Dramaturg, Open Border Ensemble of the Kammerspiele, Munich), Tina Leisch (Text- und Theaterworker, Die Schweigende Mehrheit, Vienna)
