According to the online portal nachtkritik.de the news was announced by Ruhrfestspiele in a press release on 14th of September. Olaf Kröck, the new artistic director, appointed Mr. Hein as Head dramaturge. The first Ruhrfestspiele organised under this new artistic direction will take place in May and June 2019.
Jan Hein studied German, Philosophy and Art History in Cologne and then worked as Assistant Director with Peter Palitzsch and Dimiter Gotscheff. From 1996 to 2012 he worked regularly with Thosten Lensing, co-directing, among others, Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya and The Cherry Orchard at Berliner Sophiensaelen.
As dramaturge Jan Hein worked with Tom Stromberg at Deutschen Schauspielhaus Hamburg, with Elisabeth Schweeger at Schauspiel Frankfurt and Karin Beier at Schauspiel Köln. He also worked with directors such as Dimiter Gotscheff, Jürgen Gosch, Laurent Chétouane, Sebastian Hartmann, Jürgen Kruse, Karin Beier, Jan Bosse, Katie Mitchell, Viktor Bodo, Schorsch Kamerun, Stefan Pucher, Robert Borgmann, Armin Petras, Stephan Kimmig, Jossi Wieler, Frank Castorf, Kay Voges und Claus Peymann. His productions were invited to Berliner Theatertreffen, Mülheimer Theatertagen, the Ruhrfestspielen Recklinghausen, the Wiener Festwochen and the Festival d'Avignon.
