Europolis Festival:
Stories of the old continent

In the context of the "Il Ratto d'Europa" project

Europolis postcard

From 12 to 16 November 2013, the Teatro di Roma, in collaboration with the Union of European Theatres, hosted the Europolis Festival, an international festival devoted to Europe and the stories of the old continent.

The festival marked the opening of the “Il Ratto d’Europa” project in Rome —

a project that previously had already been carried out in Modena, and that gave way to a one-year work of collective reflection on the creation of a play dealing with Europe. The project promoted theatre as a space where the community can reflect on itself and gain consciousness.

The Europolis Festival paid tribute to Europe’s profusion and diversity with a multitude of events: workshops, performances, mise en espace, musical interludes. Several monologues performed by young actors commissioned by our UTE member theatres gave voice to the variety of identities and feelings which have moulded our old continent. In this context, the young European actors from the UTE “ISO Theatre” also presented a polyphonic monologue created at the Academy for Performing Arts Baden-Württemberg, alongside the "Il Ratto d’Europa" company, enriched with several choirs from Rome that acted as the mortar binding together this mosaic of dispersed bodies and voices that is Europe.
