Born in 1985 in Düsseldorf (Germany), Kim Willems graduated from the Institute for applied theatre science in Gießen in 2015. During this time, he studied among others with Heiner Goebbels, Laurent Chetouane, Chris Kondek and Viviane de Myunch (Needcompany). He also followed a one-year training course in film directing and film dramaturgy at the filmwerkstatt in Kaiserswerth and worked as a director’s assistant with Matthaei & Konsorten and Ingo Toben.
His theatre works take place in different cooperations. Together with Lea Schneidermann and Arnita Jaunsubrena, he founded the Performance-Company Eliza Rescue Team. In this collective, he works as a performer, director and author. Their first performance Desire behind masks was shown in 2011 in Frankfurt at LAB, in Offenbach at the Festival for Young Talents and in Paris at the Theatre de la Cité Internationale in the context of the Festival d‘automne. Their next theatre performance The Man of Confidence (2013) was shown among others in Frankfurt at Künstlerhaus Mousonturm and at Thalia Theatre/Gaußstraße where it was awarded with the most important theatre price for young directors in Germany (Körber Stiftung Junge Regie). In 2014 he worked as a director at the Bürgerbühne at Schauspiel Dresden and developed the performance The Nature of children or what they really need in cooperation with Meret Kiderlen. In 2015 his final work The Human who disappears or the void behind the beard, created in cooperation with Stine Hertel, was shown at the Künstlerhaus Mousonturm in Frankfurt am Main. At the moment he works together with the Eliza Rescue Team on their new theatre-performance Report from the Interior which is planned as a coproduction by Hebbel am Ufer in Berlin, Künstlerhaus Mouosnturm in Frankfurt an the GIT Theatre in Riga.
Besides he is developing theatre performances with children and youngsters.
Such as the performance All in or nothing which took place at the Abendgymnasium Frankfurt in the beginnning of 2016 or Raumsonde Kinderstadt, a theatre lab with children in cooperation with the German stage service theatre in Marburg. In the autumn of 2016 he will develop a performance with children for adults as a director together with Meret Kiderlen which will have its premiere at studioNAXOS in November in Frankfurt.
Kim Willems lives in Frankfurt am Main and works in Frankfurt a.M., Berlin, Marburg and Gießen. He speaks German and English.
