Hungarian born, Csaba Antal studied set design in Prague with Joseph Svoboda, and then continued his studies in Paris at the Sorbonne. He became resident artist at the Katona Jozsef Theatre in Budapest. Antal has been a member of the Union of European Theatres since its foundation.
Csaba Antal worked for theatres such as the Comédie Française, the Théâtre de l’Odeon of Paris, the Théâtre National de Strasbourg, the Piccolo Teatro di Milano, the Fondatio Teatre Lliure in Barcelona and the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe in Germany.
His opera designs include Electra in Hungary, Bluebeard's Castle in Greece, Don Carlos in Germany, La Vie Parisienne in Paris and Der Rosenkavalier in Italy. Csaba Antal also taught at the Paris Conservatory, the University of Harvard in Boston, The Institute for Applied Theatre Studies in Giessen, Germany, and at Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. He has received numerous awards.
His work has been exhibited at the Prague Quadriennale and at the Triennale of Novi Sad in Serbia.
