“Us and Them = Us”

Festival of readings


From 8 to 11 November 2013, the Maly Drama Theatre – Theatre of Europe in Saint Petersburg offered a festival of readings, featuring new drama texts from across Europe dealing with the theme of tolerance.


The following plays were presented: Purge by Sofi Oxanen (Estonia/Finland), Women and War by Alaine Polcz (Hungary), Dark Wood by Andrzej Stasiuk (Poland), Berushi by Olgas Ganaidarov (Kazackstan), Human Factor by François Emmanuel (Belgium), Our Class by Tadeusz Slobodzianek (Poland), Russians and Literature by Maxim Osipov (Russia), Child of Europe (a poetic postscriptum after poetry by Czesław Miłosz, Wisława Szymborska and Joseph Brodsky).


After 3 days of performances, a roundtable with the authors, critics, directors and actors brought the festival to a close on 11 November.
