Michal Dočekal elected new President of the UTE

Director of the National Theatre of Prague Michal Dočekal has been elected with great majority as President of the Union des Théâtres de l’Europe (et de la Méditerranée) during the General Assembly at the Volkstheater Wien the 15 November 2015.

Michal Dočekal was appointed as director of the National Theatre Drama of Prague in 2002, after occupying the same position at the Prague’s Davadlo Komedie since 1994. He works as a stage director in the Czech Republic and abroad. For his artistic achievements Michal Dočekal has received the Czech Literary Fund Award 2004 for the 2003 Shed Project and the international Flaiano Prize in 2003 in Pescara, Italy.

He was elected to the Board of Directors of the UTE in 2011 and held the position as treasurer. Dočekal replaces Ilan Ronen in his function as President of the UTE who held this position since 2011.

New Board of Directors

Six international theatre representatives have been elected to form the new Board of Directors of the UTE

Newly elected members of the Board of Directors are Anna Badora, artistic director of the Volkstheater Wien, Francisca Carneiro Fernandes, president of the board of the Teatro Nacional São João do Porto, Sergio Escobar, director of the Piccolo Teatro di Milano – Teatro d'Europa, Jan Hein, head dramaturge of the Schauspiel Stuttgart, Ludovic Lagarde, director of the Comédie de Reims and Ilan Ronen, director of the Habima – National Theatre of Israel.

Furthermore the UTE is proud to confirm Lev Dodin, director of the Maly Drama Theatre in Saint Petersburg, as President of Honour of the UTE and the famous French essayist and professor emeritus Georges Banu as new member of honour of the association. Ruth Heynen has been confirmed in her position as director of the UTE.
