UTE members will gather in Porto between 17 – 20 November 2016 to attend their General Assembly and the rich cultural frame programme at the Teatro Nacional São João.

This autumn, the UTE General Assembly unites its members in Portugal’s second largest city, Porto, where the Teatro Nacional São João has created a comprehensive accompanying programme. A roundtable entitled “Economy, Art, Europe” combined with the three-part undertaking of Karl Kraus’ The Last Days of Mankind directed by Nuno Carinhas and Nuno M. Cardoso address the current complex situation in Europe. Seeing additional performances, such as Underground directed by Luís Araujo, Pensa, Logo Sangra (It Thinks, Therefore It Bleeds) directed by Fernando Mora Ramos, What a rogue I am, directed by Gonçalo Amorim, or Neva directed by João Reis, will allow UTE members to dive into the artistic work of their host.

Held twice a year, UTE general assemblies allow its members to meet on a regular basis and to discuss and vote on major decisions regarding the future of the community. UTE members reflect on relevant issues in our societies, the role of theatre and the UTE in this context, and mould the UTE programme accordingly. Being hosted by a different member theatre every time, general assemblies provide the ideal opportunity for better getting to know the individual UTE member theatres. This biannual encounter also is a space for exchange, for learning about each other’s activities, and for creating new projects.
